Day 144: We're backing Dundee United to beat Hamilton at [1.67]
Our four-day winning streak ended on Wednesday when we fell for Harry Redknapp's bluff that Tottenham would play in their normal adventurous manner against AC Milan, as their goalless draw scuppered our double on the Lilywhites and Schalke triumphing at home in the Champions League.
In a bid to bounce back, we're backing Dundee United against Hamilton in the SPL at [1.67], a price shorter than those that we normally pick out but one that is irresistible given the extent to which the statistics point to a victory for Peter Houston's side, who are chasing a fourth straight top-half finish.
The Terrors have won six of their eight at home to teams below them in the table and have made the most of this fixture-packed part of their campaign by recording comfortable wins over positional rivals Inverness CT and Aberdeen, leaving them five points shy of fourth-placed Kilmarnock with two games in hand.
Hamilton meanwhile are bottom of the league and, judging by recent results, are unlikely to improve their survival prospects any time soon, having taken just a point from their last seven matches. They have gone a staggering 18 outings without a win, a streak that sees them seven points from safety.
The primary reason for the Accies' bleak situation is their failure to register a victory in front of their fans all season so far, but their travelling form has gradually become as dire. Billy Reid's men have collected one point from a possible 24 on the road since September, scoring only once in that time.
Dundee United on the other hand have scored nine goals in their last four as hosts, with leaders Celtic the sole club they failed to secure three points against, so things appear set to get even worse for Hamilton tonight.
Our bet: We're backing Dundee United to defeat Hamilton at [1.67], meaning that - before factoring in commission - we stand to win £6.70. The same punt pays only £5 with Ladbrokes and William Hill. Sign up for a new account now and have your first bet of up to £25 refunded if it loses.
