The £10 Bet of the Day - Celtic to struggle

Day 163: We're backing Hibernian +1.5 on the Asian Handicap at Celtic at [2.1]

Three successive winning wagers have pushed our overall Bet of the Day profit up to £164.60, meaning that if we make it four in a row today, our total will be higher than it ever has been before.

The team we're trusting on this momentous occasion is Hibernian. It's a brave call given that their opponents Celtic suddenly have everything to play for after Rangers nipped past them at the top of the SPL on Tuesday, but odds of [2.1] on Hibs +1.5 on the Asian Handicap are too good to turn down.

That means that so long as the hosts don't win by two goals or more, we'll boost our tally by £11, and practically every statistic about the big clash at Parkhead indicates that even if the Bhoys - who only need a point to leapfrog Rangers - triumph, they will do so by the slimmest of margins.

Hibernian, having endured a dire 12-match winless streak over the winter, are absolutely flying right now, unbeaten in seven games and having just held high-flying neighbours Hearts at the weekend, admittedly failing to make the most of a man advantage.

Colin Calderwood's side have been victorious once and lost by a single goal twice in their last three meetings with Celtic in Glasgow, while the Bhoys have won just one of their last five fixtures in all competitions by two goals or more.

Last time out, they suffered defeat in the League Cup Final to Rangers, so the possibility of a negative reaction to that setback, and being off the top of the table for the first time in 2011, having appeared comfortable for a while, cannot be discounted.

Our bet: We're backing Hibernian +1.5 on the Asian Handicap at Celtic at [2.1], meaning that - before factoring in commission - we stand to win £11. Sign up for a new account now and have your first bet of up to £25 refunded if it loses.

Unusual to wait until after full-time to slam a bet that you were so confident would lose!

No seriously, it was a stupid bet. Celtic had their strikers available as Hooper deftly showed by grabbing a brace although he did miss a penalty.

I'm sure you are good on the Premiership, but Scottish football is different. Not that different a dynamic as the Premiership is usually a two-horse race itself but the money available makes it a safe bet Celtic and Rangers will win most of their games. If you want to look at teams who occasionally get a result against them, try Dundee United or even Inverness. Hibs aren't really a bogey team for either half of the Old Firm.

Any tips for the national on Saturday?

Cheers for the comment Paul. Yeah, we've had a decent amount of SPL success in the past, including interestingly with Inverness against the Old Firm, as you've highlighted.

We may have placed too much attention to Hibs' unbeaten run and recent victories at Parkhead and Ibrox on this occasion though, meaning we missed out on a landmark victory.
