West Brom clash to define Wolves' season

Mick McCarthy has boldly predicted that if his Wolves side defeat Black Country rivals West Brom at Molineux on Sunday lunchtime, a [2.22] shot on Betfair, they will go on to claim enough points to ensure a third successive season in the Premier League.

Wolves had at one stage appeared well on course for survival but a dramatic dip in form since Kevin Doyle injured knee ligaments representing the Republic of Ireland against Macedonia in March has seen them drop down to 19th, though they are only a point from safety.

A favourable closing sequence in which they host West Brom and Blackburn and visit Sunderland isn't enough to stop them being rated [1.62] to be relegated - the consequence being that the lay price is an appealing [1.64] - however McCarthy hasn't lost faith despite a five-match winless run.

He said: "This result won't be a defining one - unless we win. Then it will be defining. If we win on Sunday, then I don't doubt for one minute we'll stay up, although I'm sure it's going to the last game. If we win, we go into our last two games with far more confidence after an away draw and a home win."

Striker Doyle, who is hugelyl important to the club despite scoring just five league goals - fewer than Steven Fletcher and Sylvain Ebanks-Blake - this season, was initially expected to sit out the rest of the campaign but is now hopeful of playing a part. McCarthy has ruled him out for Sunday though.
