West Ham favourites for drop after rout

Everything was looking reasonably good for Avram Grant just 24 hours ago.

The Irons were on a four game unbeaten run and had climbed their way out of the relegation zone. However, after a 5-0 defeat to Newcastle United West Ham are once again rooted to the foot of the Premier League and the whispers about Grant's future are getting a little louder.

The east London side are now [1.77] favourites for the drop ahead of Wolves whose price lengthened slightly to [1.96] following their shock 1-0 victory over Premier League champions Chelsea.

However, such is the tightness at the foot of the Premier League that even Everton are only four points from the drop zone, despite sitting in 11th place.

West Ham, Wigan and Wolves are the overwhelming favourites to be playing Championship football next season, while the rest of the likely candidates are a little further adrift in the betting.

The Latics are second favourites for the drop at [1.86] and currently lie in 19th position following their draw against Bolton Wanderers last night.

Blackpool's 2-1 defeat against Birmingham City means they are fourth in the betting at [3.7] with fellow Premier League new boys West Bromwich Albion just behind at [3.9].

Despite their heroics so far this season, Ian Holloway's side could be well worth backing for the drop, with those odds certain to come in if crucial games against West Ham and West Brom don't go their way in coming weeks.

If you fancy an outside bet then Aston Villa can be backed at [5.3]. With Gerard Houllier's side currently in the bottom three and several clubs sniffing around his top performers this January, that bet could certainly be worth a couple of quid.

Liverpool couldn't get relegated, could they? Back the Reds for the drop at [36.0]...
