The in-play guide to West Ham v Liverpool
The Carling Cup Final isn't the only match available to watch on Sky Sports on Sunday, as West Ham host Liverpool in the Premier League. We've found three trends to help you try to make money in-play.
When Liverpool score first, they win
You have to go back over a decade to September 2000 to find an occasion where West Ham have broken the deadlock against West Ham and ended up with anything less than three points. There have been a dozen meetings between the two since in which the Reds have taken a 1-0 lead and not once in that stretch have West Ham even proven capable of drawing, so if Kenny Dalglish's side open the scoring, don't be afraid to back them at odds-on.
A first-half strike near guarantees over 2.5 goals
Fifteen of the last 18 West Ham matches that have featured at least one first-half goal have gone on to register over 2.5 goals, while the trend is even more dominant in recent fixtures following the January additions of Robbie Keane - who sits out this clash with his former club due to injury - and Demba Ba, with each of the last eight in which there has been a strike before the interval going on to feature at least three. Therefore, pile in on overs if the opener comes prior to the half-time oranges.
Odd could be the way to go
Betfair offer an in-play market on this game on whether the total number of goals scored will be odd or even, with none counting as an even scoreline and it's interesting to note that eight of the last ten Premier League collisions between these teams have registered an odd total, with one of the two evens being a goalless draw. That suggests that the first goal goes in, you can be fairly confident of odd paying out, and if there are two fired within the first hour, odds greater than the starting price of [1.99] may be up for grabs.
