Five memorable West Ham v Man Utd ties
West Ham have got some key players out injured and Manchester United are likely to field a second string but that shouldn't put you off tuning in tonight. Here are five of the most memorable 21st century collisions between the teams...
West Ham 2-2 Manchester United (August 26 2000)
Harry Redknapp has gained a reputation for comebacks this year at Tottenham but he enjoyed a fair few at his former clubs, and this is one of the ones that stands out, Paolo Di Canio (from the spot) and Davor Suker scoring in the final five minutes to cancel out the goals of David Beckham and Andy Cole.
Manchester United 0-1 West Ham (January 28 2001)
This was West Ham's last cup triumph over Manchester United - they've both won four apiece of their nine in total - Paolo Di Canio firing in as Fabien Barthez raised his arm to try to appeal for an offside. Little did they know they were just setting themselves up for a quarter-final loss to Spurs.
West Ham 3-5 Manchester United (March 16 2002)
This encounter saw David Beckham put in one of his greatest performances at a ground where the criticism had been at its most stinging after his sending off at World Cup 1998. The then England captain struck twice in a fascinating game that West Ham twice led before fading in the second half.
Manchester United 6-0 West Ham (January 26 2003)
West Ham fans will be hoping tonight's match doesn't go the same way as their last cup clash with the Red Devils, who annihilated them 6-0 in their relegation season as defender Gary Breen suffered a chastising afternoon. How bad were the Irons that day? Well, Phil Neville was on the scoresheet!
Manchester United 0-1 West Ham (May 13 2007)
As Wigan achieved a surprise victory at Sheffield United, a point was all West Ham actually needed from this final day trip to face the champions but with Robert Green and goalscorer Carlos Tevez in particular in the fine form that inspired their incredible escape from relegation, they took all three.
