Avram Grant's assistant leaves West Ham
West Ham have this afternoon confirmed the departure of their assistant manager Zeljko Petrovic just months after Avram Grant brought him to east London.
The exit follows tabloid rumours that the Montenegrin had fallen out with a number of the players, however it is unclear whether he has been sacked or whether alternative suggestions that he has been allowed to leave in order to assume a similar role at a foreign team.
Either way, it would appear that Grant won't have much say in who succeeds Petrovic as his number two, with Wally Downes, Paolo Di Canio and Steve Lomas all mentioned in the press as candidates.
The Irons boss was mocked by the club's travelling support at Anfield on Saturday but David Gold dismissed speculation that they could axe the Israeli, who has overseen only one victory in 14 league games, a start which has seen them fall below Blackpool and Wolves as [1.73] relegation favourites.
The announcement on West Ham's official website this morning though that the board had declared Saturday's home tie against Wigan "the save our season game" in a statement billing the match as "must-win" implies that the former Chelsea and Portsmouth tactician won't survive another loss.
Will Grant become the first Premier League manager axed this season? Is it unfair to blame him for West Ham's troubles? Have your say below...
