The forum on West Ham's next manager
Rarely has a manager market been as open over a week in as the current West Ham one, so to try to better understand what is going on, we looked at what the experts on the Betfair football forum are saying...
"Surely David Gold and co won't dare employ Neil Warnock ([16.0]). They keep saying how they want to listen to the fans. What right minded West Ham fans will want him as their manager after the Carlos Tevez fiasco? Surely Warnock would snub West Ham as well for getting him relegated." - 99heathk
"Sam Allardyce (the [4.6] favourite) is anchoring for a Premier League job going by his columns in the papers and I can't see him being offered the West Ham one either given his style of play - look what happened at Newcastle. Martin O'Neill ([8.0]) is the best shout along with Chris Hughton ([6.4]) but then again Roberto Di Matteo ([80.0]) is out of work and has proven credentials in getting a Championship side of a similar size promoted in his first season in West Brom!" - mesmerised
"The Sunday Mirror's Paul Smith says Malky Mackay ([16.5]) has emerged as the early frontrunner as the board finally draw up the shortlist. That would be a potentially half-decent appointment - his CV isn't lengthy but he's done some excellent work at Watford in trying circumstances, producing a competitive side that plays a bit of football when they looked nailed on for relegation. There's a West Ham connection too." - Shipsupstreets
"It won't be Di Matteo. Gold and David Sullivan said they want a British manager. Anyway, he'll be the new Brentford manager once he's sorted out his gardening leave stuff with West Brom. Warnock would be a good appointment, no-one around has won anywhere near as many promotions as he has. Now Amit Bhatia has left QPR, Warnock has lost his main ally there. Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone might well fancy someone with a more fashionable name/accent." - dizzydavid1
