Betfair users profit from West Brom's pain
It was an unusual weekend in the Premier League relegation battle as none of the four teams at the bottom of the table were beaten despite several facing rather daunting fixtures, and those that backed the strugglers to do well were handsomely rewarded on Betfair.
The result of matchday 36 as far as the bottom half is concerned was Wolves' 3-1 victory over Black Country rivals West Brom at Molineux which ended their winless streak since Kevin Doyle suffered an injury representing Republic of Ireland and enabled them to climb out of the relegation zone.
Anyone that staked £10 on Mick McCarthy's men triumphing 3-1 made a profit of £209 - even accounting for the maximum five per cent commission - whereas those that placed their bets with Victor Chandler, Bwin, Blue Square and SportingBet only received £140.
That result was a stomach-winding experience for Blackpool after their heroic 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane on Saturday had briefly strengthened their chances of staying up. A £10 wager on that scoreline returned £128.25 on Betfair, compared to just £90 with Ladbrokes, Stan James and BetClic.
Bottom club West Ham were also involved in a 1-1 draw, but it was far less commendable than Blackpool's given that it came at home to fellow strugglers Blackburn, in a game they realistically needed to win.
Avram Grant's gloom wasn't shared by the Betfair customers who had that outcome covered as they gained a handsome sum of £66.50, a significant improvement on the £50 that Bet365 and Stan James customers claimed.
There was also more money to be made betting against other people on Betfair in the Championship as Nottingham Forest booked a play-off spot in style with a 3-0 success at Crystal Palace. £10 flutters on such a comprehensive away win paid out £209, while BetClic users had to settle for only £130.
Don't take our word for it though, why not test Betfair yourself using Betchecker?
