Tottenham to shop at local rivals Chelsea
Contrary to earlier claims that there would be more departures than arrivals at Tottenham this summer, it appears that Harry Redknapp will again be handed the opportunity to make additions that will take the club forward, with a certain Chelsea striker high on his list of targets.
The Daily Express are reporting that Spurs are hoping to exploit the uncertainty surrounding Didier Drogba's future at Chelsea by offering him a chance to stay in London but with far more guarantee of regular first-team football by moving to White Hart Lane.
A lack of firepower has been described as a major factor in the Lilywhites' failure to retain their place in the Champions League, with their attack the least effective of the top six and forwards Roman Pavlyuchenko, Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe scoring a combined 16 Premier League goals.
Defoe is considered the most vulnerable of the current trio having contributed only a quarter of that overall tally yet still felt the need to complain about his lack of action earlier this week, and the Express and Daily Mail are both agreed that his second spell in north London is coming to an end.
However, while the Express are talking about Scott Parker and Eden Hazard as well as Drogba as potential Spurs newcomers, the Mail are of the opinion that one of the players that they are keenest to land in pre-season is Birmingham goalkeeper Ben Foster.
The former Manchester United shot-stopper, who has taken a break from international football to prolong his club career, indicated that he would be happy to stay at Birmingham if the [1.71]-rated possibility of relegation is realised on Sunday, but admitted that the Blues may decide to cash in.
Can Spurs buy their way into title contention? They are [80.0] to finish first next year...
