Tottenham again linked with ageing striker

Ask most Tottenham supporters why they are fifth in the Premier League and four points off the Champions League places, with odds of [3.75] offered on them finishing in the top-four, and they will point to the lack of an undeniably top-quality striker as their greatest weakness.

Spurs have scored fewer goals than promoted Blackpool and Newcastle this season and there's no doubting where the blame for that lies. Peter Crouch has two goals in 26 Premier League outings, Defoe two in 15, while Roman Pavlyuchenko is overlooked despite a decent seven in 22 (ten starts).

Harry Redknapp was believed to be looking to address the problem by shopping in Spain in January, though defender Bongani Khumalo and midfielder Steven Pienaar were the only eventual additions, however there is a story in the Daily Mirror about a renewed effort to sign Sevilla's Alvaro Negredo.

Another returning rumour is that the Lilywhites will once again move for veteran Bayern Munich forward Miroslav Klose, who continues to deliver for Germany at the age of 32, netting twice against Kazakhstan on Saturday to climb within seven strikes of all-time leading goalscorer Gerd Muller.

Despite being a hero for his country, he remains on the periphery at club level, a status justified somewhat by Mario Gomez's fine form this season, and the Daily Mail claim that the former Werder Bremen attacker has already decided to leave when his contract expires this summer.

Their story also states that the experienced front man is ready to head abroad for the first time in his career for first-team football, and while Spurs are known admirers, they can expect competition from the likes of Benfica and Juventus.

Is Klose the striker to turn Tottenham's fortunes? Have your say below...
