Striker open to possible Tottenham switch

Uruguay striker Diego Forlan was interviewed by Sky Sports last night after playing in his country's 3-2 victory over Republic of Ireland in Dublin and denied rumours that Tottenham had attempted to sign him in January, but admitted he'd be open to the possibility of a summer move to England.

The World Cup Golden Ball winner is enduring what could transpire to be his least productive season since leaving Manchester United in 2004 at Atletico Madrid and was even at one point subject to a rumour that his team-mates had started a secret campaign not to pass to him during matches.

That and the fact that Atletico appear almost certain to miss out on Champions League qualification once again, with odds of [20.0] offered on them gaining the 15 points on former club Villarreal or Valencia required, has prompted suggestions that the 31-year-old will soon exit the Spanish capital.

His reputation in Spain as a two-time La Liga top goalscorer is so great that he has been linked with Barcelona and Real Madrid before, however with Tottenham widely believed to be eager to add at least one forward to their squad, it is felt that they may be able to tempt him back to the Premier League.

Spurs are more likely than Atletico to dine at Europe's top table in 2011-12 yet are far from sure to, with a price of [3.8] available on them nudging Chelsea or Manchester City out of a top-four slot and their chances of winning this year's Champions League to earn the right to defend rated at [30.0].

Forlan's response when asked if a return to England is on the cards was: "I have two years left on my contract at Atletico Madrid and I am really happy there, but you never know in football. If there was a nice offer, for the team and for me, then you have to see. You have to see if it is good enough."

Would Forlan succeed at the second attempt? Have your say below...
