Punters see no way back for Spurs & Inter
It was a terrific Tuesday night for Betfair Football thanks to our eyebrow-raising calls that Emmanuel Adebayor rather than Cristiano Ronaldo would be Real Madrid's hero against Tottenham and that Raul and Schalke would score at the San Siro, though admittedly we didn't have them down for five!
Further joy was provided by Andy Gray landing his tip that Angel Di Maria would score at the Bernabeu and our Bet of the Day on goals at Accrington providing successful, however there was absolutely nothing to cheer about for Spurs and holders Inter in the Champions League.
Both teams are considered by the majority of Betfair punters to already be effectively eliminated with 90 minutes of football still to play after emphatic defeats in the first legs of their quarter-finals.
Tottenham are [100.0] to somehow recover from 4-0 down against Real Madrid, but while Jose Mourinho did his best to suggest that anything was possible at White Hart Lane and that his side wouldn't take anything for granted ahead of the second leg, the Lilywhites look beaten.
For Inter, their comeback against Bayern Munich and the incredulity about what happened at the San Siro has created the impression that it's not unthinkable that they could progress in Germany despite requiring a four-goal win. They are [12.0] to qualify despite being backed at [50.0] in the aftermath.
Even at 2-4, a draw didn't appear beyond Leonardo's entertaining Nerazzurri, who have forgotten how to defend since Walter Samuel suffered a long-term injury in November, and weren't helped by Lucio's suspension, yet a controversial second yellow for Cristian Chivu has put them in a horrible position.
Two clubs that won't be complaining about Inter's plight are Chelsea and Manchester United, who would presumably prefer Schalke in the semi-finals. Their prices to win the competition have been nudged in to [6.6] and [7.8] respectively.
Can either Real Madrid or Schalke be caught? Have your say below...
