Juventus to beat Tottenham to winger?

It's a rumour that ran for most of the summer, so will Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp end up regretting not making a move for Everton's Steven Pienaar if reports that Juventus are now joining the hunt for the South African are correct?

There were further murmurings recently that Redknapp was keen to move for the winger in January, but now it seems he may face some high-level competition from the Italian giants, although they of course - unlike Spurs - can't offer Champions League football right now.

Pienaar's contract at Goodison Park runs out in the summer and he is free to talk to foreign clubs from January 1, which according to a story in today's Daily Mail has attracted the Old Lady's attention.

Everton do not want to lose the 28-year-old, but if he doesn't put pen to paper on a new deal they would risk losing him for free in the summer, which may force their hand and open the door for Pienaar to be sold in January.

Can Everton afford to let their player of the year leave midway through the season? Despite being bottom, they are a massive [24.0] to go down...
