Heroic Tottenham to stutter at Blackpool
It was exactly a week ago that Tottenham gave their supporters a memory that they will never forget with a 1-0 victory over AC Milan at the San Siro, but don't let that hugely impressive result trick you into backing them at [1.91] to triumph at Blackpool this evening.
Blackpool are on a disappointing run of six games without a win yet they haven't been outclassed in any of those fixtures - none of their last 11 Premier League defeats have come by a margin of more than two goals in fact - and their double success over Liverpool shows a capacity to find a new level for the big occasions.
And of course, they face a Spurs side that celebrated reaching the Champions League preliminaries with a 4-2 loss to already relegated Burnley, then toasted qualifying for the group stage with a home reverse to Wigan, before following up beating Inter Milan 3-1 with a 4-2 setback away to Bolton.
The Lilywhites have only won one of their four encounters against bottom-five teams to date, and even that 3-1 win against Wolves required a comeback and three goals in the closing 14 minutes, so they have plenty of previous when it comes to unexpected stumbles.
They've dropped points in six of their nine meetings with bottom-eight clubs and that is the main obstacle in their pursuit of further Champions League football, a feat that Harry Redknapp has suggested would be a miracle, despite odds of [2.06] on them finishing in the top four again stating otherwise.
The opportunity to lay Tottenham at [1.92] tonight is therefore very attractive, especially with both Gareth Bale and Rafael van der Vaart missing out through injury. The man in form coming into this clash is Charlie Adam, having netted three in five for the hosts, and he is [5.4] to grab another.
Think Blackpool can actually win this one? They are [4.4] to do so...
