German club to rival Tottenham for striker
Earlier on Tuesday, we commented on the Daily Mail's story that Tottenham were planning a renewed bid to sign Miroslav Klose when his Bayern Munich contract expires at the end of the season, however two spanners have been thrown in the work over the course of the day.
The first problem that German newspaper Bild flagged up was that Klose may demand a wage higher than what Daniel Levy is willing to pay for a 32-year-old, with Bayern president Uli Hoeness saying: "Miro earns a great deal of money with us. I don't think he'd be interested in taking a big pay cut."
Their report also claims that it isn't just Juventus and Benfica, two other clubs far from certain to reach the group stage of next season's Champions League, competing with Spurs for his signature, as Borussia Dortmund and Hoffenheim have both also been keeping tabs on the German goal machine.
The foreign suitors have the advantage of being able to lodge offers now, whereas Bundesliga sides must wait until the end of the campaign to get involved, but Dortmund are definitely in the running as it is almost certain that they will finish first at [1.13] and dine at Europe's top table next term.
Wages may also prove obstructive to Jurgen Klopp's team, which is perhaps why Klose hasn't fully ruled out the prospect of staying at the Allianz Arena, despite his frustration at a lack of action. Yet while he plays second fiddle to Mario Gomez at Bayern, he remains first choice for his country.
Tottenham supporters have an opportunity to check out their potential star summer signing live on ESPN tonight when they host Australia in a repeat of the World Cup Group D clash that saw Germany impress all onlookers with a dominant 4-0 victory. Klose scored that day and is [2.02] to net again.
Will Spurs need to be in the Champions League to lure Klose? Tell us below...
