Andy on Tottenham's European prospects
Every week, Betfair Football's star tipster Andy Gray will be picking out and answering his favourite question out of those he is asked on Twitter and Facebook. Here's his answer to this week's poser...
"Am I the only one that thinks Spurs have a decent chance of going a long way in the Champions League. They're [46.0] on Betfair. Back-to-lay?" - @Kingy100
I agree with you that instinctively Tottenham look a big price at [46.0] for the Champions League. Since Harry Redknapp has been in charge of the club we've seen that they can beat anyone on their day, especially at White Hart Lane. They have a handful of really top class players such as Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Jermain Defoe but the squad as a whole is a very balanced one and one filled with quality.
That said, in the Champions League they'll find a whole set of new challenges that they haven't been through before and it's how quickly they can adapt to them that will be the difference as to whether they sink or swim. Unlike the Premier League, a couple of bad results could mean you're out before you've really got started and this Spurs side is occasionally vulnerable to putting in a performance like the one they were guilty of at home to Wigan. Like I say, a couple of those and the dream is over.
It's also fair to say the draw hasn't been kind to them. There's the small matter of defending champions Inter Milan in their group, a Werder Bremen side who are inconsistent but brilliant on their day and a Twente team who may be without Steve McClaren these days but haven't become a poor side overnight. Still, I fancy them to just scrape through and if they reach the knockout stages, they'll be one of the teams everyone is keen to avoid. They're definitely a solid back-to-lay for me.
