Man Utd star attracts Tottenham interest
Rumours have been swirling online in the last 24 hours that Manchester United may be willing to let Dimitar Berbatov leave Old Trafford this summer and that his former employers Tottenham are heading the queue to take him off the Premier League leaders' hands.
The Bulgarian striker is the top goalscorer in the entire division with a quite spectacular 21 goals in 23 starts and is on course to make history as the player to have achieved the feat having started the fewest games if he holds off the challenge of injured Manchester City captain Carlos Tevez at [1.29].
Yet despite enjoying what his finest campaign since moving to England in 2006, he is being forced to play second fiddle to Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez at the moment, a situation that is unlikely to be remedied for as long as the Red Devils continue to win.
He wasn't in the squad as Sir Alex Ferguson's side were held 0-0 at Newcastle on Tuesday night, a situation believed to have been caused by a bout of illness, however that lack of involvement as the table-toppers fired a rare blank appears to have triggered fresh reports that he is frustrated.
Were Manchester United to decide to sell the 30-year-old at the end of the season, which is by no means certain as Ferguson always speaks glowingly about his number nine, it is thought that Spurs would be interested in recapturing a forward that they sold for £30 million three years ago.
Though they remain in contention for a top-four finish, Harry Redknapp's team's progress has been hindered at times by a lack of assurance in front of goal, as is shown by the fact that Newcastle and Bolton are among the clubs to have averaged more goals a game than the Lilywhites.
Will Spurs be offering Champions League football? They are [3.8] to make fourth...
