Man Utd escape unpunished after defeat
Manchester United were finally beaten in the Premier League at the 25th attempt at Molineux on Saturday by a Wolves side that rarely look like relegation fodder even though they sit joint bottom of the table, which perhaps explains why they are out to [2.02] to end the season in the bottom three.
Despite the defeat, the Red Devils remain firm [1.81] favourites to take the title for the fourth time in five years after their long-awaited setback occurred on a weekend when the two clubs considered by punters to be their closest challengers both failed to take advantage.
Arsene Wenger will no doubt feel that his weekend also could have gone far worse after Arsenal's horror show at St James' Park, in which they became the first ever Premier League team to surrender a four-goal advantage, saw them gain a point on the leaders rather than lose two.
However, it was a horrendous collapse made worse by the timing as just days earlier the French tactician had praised the Gunners' character after they came from behind against Everton, stating that "this is maybe the aspect of the team which has been questioned the most, and recently that's where we have been the most convincing".
The 13-time champions are four points behind but are only [3.45] to finish first having already faced Chelsea and Manchester City twice, while Manchester United must still visit the Emirates.
The holders are ahead of the Citizens in the betting at [11.5] despite sitting ten points off top after wasting their chance to capitalise on the top two's misfortune, slumping 1-0 against Liverpool as the big-money arrivals of Fernando Torres and David Luiz failed to lift their challenge as many expected.
Manchester City's price is perhaps the most appealing at [16.5] after they coasted past West Brom 3-0, though with their neighbours five points ahead with a game in hand, they probably need to win at Old Trafford next Saturday. If you think that they will, it may prove a shrewd back-to-lay investment.
