Man United boss on top secret mission
Officially, Sir Alex Ferguson missed the Scuthorpe game last night to check out upcoming Champions League opponents Valencia, but if the Mirror is to be believed, he had an ulterior motive for taking a flight to Spain.
Valencia's opponents in their 1-1 draw last night were Atlético Madrid - and Fergie is allegedly keen on signing their 19-year-old goalkeeper David De Gea as a long term replacement for Edwin van der Sar.
Apparently, watching Valencia was just a ruse for Fergie to scope out De Gea personally after he impressed United scouts with a series of brilliant performances over recent months, including a superb display against Barcelona last weekend.
The Mirror reckons United could snap-up the goalkeeper for around £12 million, with Atletico looking to offload players to balance their books.
Is Van der Sar still up to the job? He's [2.24] to keep a clean sheet against Bolton at the weekend...
