Manchester United's hope of signing Atletico Madrid starlet David De Gea have taken a massive blow after the goalkeeper revealed he is more than happy in the Spanish capital.

United already look set to snap up Aalesunds' 26-year-old stopper Anders Lindegaard in the coming weeks but, with Edwin van der Sar set to retire at the end of the season, Sir Alex Ferguson was also determined to sign the 20-year-old as cover.

However, Fergie's hopes have been dashed after the player reiterated his intention to stay in Madrid for the foreseeable future.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: "I'm delighted and very happy at Atletico and would like to stay here. It is a tribute that a great team like Manchester United is interested in me.

"It's nice, but I have Atletico deep inside me and I would like to stay here. The club has given me everything.

"This club is great and hopefully beautiful things can happen here. I am very happy here. I have a lifetime here and it is a big club that deserves everything."

Sounds like he quite likes it at Atletico Madrid...
