Man City to sell one star to sign another

Reports in Italy indicate that defending European champions Inter have attempted to agree a compromise with Manchester City regarding both sides' pursuit of highly-rated Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez.

The Citizens were believed to have held talks with Udinese recently over the possibility of bringing the 22-year-old to Eastlands, but the prolific Serie A star has been on Inter's radar for a while and the treble winners were expected to fight with former boss Roberto Mancini for his signature.

Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport have suggested an alternative situation though whereby the Nerazzurri would allow the Premier League team to have a free run at capturing Sanchez if the top-four hopefuls agree to sell them their captain Carlos Tevez in the summer for £25 million.

The offer doesn't initially appear to make that much sense from a Manchester City perspective considering that they have the funds to outbid Inter for Sanchez if necessary and should be in a position to provide the upcoming South American talent with Champions League football too.

However, there are murmurings that the club are contemplating the possibility of life after Tevez, as aired by Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler during their match against Liverpool on Monday night, even going as far as to claim that it could be his last game for them when he went off injured.

The Argentine striker put in a transfer request earlier this season yet the situation looked to have been resolved, though it is possible that all parties agreed to remove his future prospects from the agenda until the end of campaign before continuing discussions.

The former Manchester United man is in danger of missing this weekend's FA Cup semi-final against his old employers with a hamstring problem but is likely to return again this term. He is in contention to be Premier League top goalscorer and trails Berbatov by two strikes with six fixtures remaining.

Think he can overtake his Bulgarian ex-team-mate? He is [2.5] to do so...
