Man City tempted by Wolves international
Manchester City are looking to provide England number one Joe Hart with fresh competition for the goalkeeping jersey at Eastlands by bringing in his opposite number in the Wales national squad, Wayne Hennessey, according to the Daily Mirror.
The 24-year-old was previously a trainee with the Citizens but has established himself in the Premier League since being let go with Wolves, where he is currently first choice having shared duties with American veteran Marcus Hahnemann for much of this campaign.
Shay Given - who is unlikely to feature again this season due to a shoulder injury - is expected to leave Manchester City this summer having grown frustrated by a lack of first-team opportunities, and it is claimed that Roberto Mancini wants to bring in a fairly high-profile replacement.
The Mirror suggest that there is more chance of a move being completed if Wolves are relegated, as Hennessey signed a new contract at Molineux last year and would presumably be reluctant to turn his back on regular Premier League football to sit on the bench at a club that got shot of him before.
Mick McCarthy's side remain in the drop zone and are [3.4] to go down but in our opinion are the least likely of the entire bottom eight to wind up in the Championship next season given both their recent form and undaunting run-in, so Manchester City may have to spend big to get their man.
A number of shot-stoppers have moved from the second tier to teams competing for the Champions League places in recent years, including Ross Turnbull and Brad Jones, so it's arguably more common for players to take the gamble when in the Championship than already at Premier League clubs.
