Man City join lengthy list of Cahill admirers
Fax machines are for some reason still the form of communication widely used for transfer negotiations and Bolton can expect there's to be busier than most this summer as most of the Premier League's Champions League contenders appear to be queuing up for Gary Cahill.
Eyebrows were raised when unpopular former boss paid £5 million for what was then an Aston Villa reserve but it's proven to be one of the shrewdest purchases in recent Premier League history, with the centre back becoming an England squad regular and now being valued at four times as much.
Manchester United and Arsenal are among those to have been credited with an interest in the past but the latest rumour being pedalled by the Daily Mirror is that Manchester City are hoping to jump ahead of both in the queue and bring the 25-year-old to Eastlands at the end of the season.
The Citizens should have Champions League football to offer the defender, who first-team coach David Platt watched have a comfortable afternoon in Saturday's 3-0 victory over West Ham, and want him to replace Kolo Toure, who is expected to be banned after failing a drugs test, at the back.
Roberto Mancini's side have the spending power to blow away the competition yet are also thought to be willing to give the Trotters players in exchange if they prefer, with Dedryk Boyata and Shaun Wright-Phillips' names mentioned.
Cahill will leave with the blessing of most Wanderers supporters though, especially if he can help guide them to the FA Cup this year, a feat that will require them to beat Stoke at Wembley on Sunday and then see off Manchester City or Manchester United in the final.
Can they do it? They are [7.0] to get their hands on the trophy...
