Five players linked with Manchester City
Will the spending ever stop? Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has said he is two or three players short of what he needs and the national newspaper rumour factory has come up with five names that would all command huge fees.
A report in the Daily Star has put the names of Fernando Torres, Karim Benzema and Edin Dzeko in the frame as the Citizens' striker targets, while Javier Pastore and Wesley Sneijder are suggested as possible attacking midfield additions - all players who would surely add a sizeable lump to the £117 million Mancini spent during the summer.
The Manchester City boss is said to feel the need to add a striker to his already strong squad in order to be sure of securing Champions League football at the end of the season, with Carlos Tevez having scored over half of their league goals.
They were rumoured to have inquired about Wolfsburg striker Dzeko during August but were put off by a reported £50 million asking price, while Torres was reportedly City's number one target before the striker committed himself to Liverpool.
Mancini is understood to want another attacking midfielder to provide competition for David Silva, which is where the links to Serie A stars Pastore and Sneijder come in.
