Scapegoat Konchesky to leave Liverpool

It isn't just Roy Hodgson that many Liverpool fans blame for their dismal first half of the season, one of his most notable signings Paul Konchesky also became an object of ridicule at Anfield after he struggled to make the step up following his summer arrival from Fulham.

The left back started Hodgson's final game - the 3-1 defeat at Blackburn - but hasn't played a single minute of Kenny Dalglish's first five matches in interim charge, with the Reds legend preferring to use right back Glen Johnson out of position.

So there are unlikely to be too many tears shed in Merseyside about the speculation on Sky Sports that the former Charlton and West Ham defender is close to returning to the capital, with last night's opponents Liverpool and Fulham said to be in advanced talks about the transfer of the 29-year-old.

It is thought that several Premier League clubs expressed an interest in taking the two-time England international off of Liverpool's hands, however FIFA regulations render Fulham his only possible destination as you can't feature for more than two teams in one campaign, and he started for the Cottagers against Manchester United in August.

Konchesky's replacement at Craven Cottage, Mexico regular Carlos Salcido, has failed to impress and his unhappiness in England reportedly persuaded manager Mark Hughes to make an enquiry for his out-of-favour predecessor.

Despite their recent improvement, Fulham remain just four points clear of the relegation zone and if you think they are vulnerable, they are [7.2] to go down...

Scapegoat? Not sure about that, how about the fact that he is just a terrible player and not good enough for Liverpool.

Scapegoat? You're having a laugh aren't you? The lad is clearly out of his depth. When you're not good enough to play how does that make you a scapegoat? Rubbish.

Utter rubbish on the scapegoat claim. Liverpool fans have as little faith in Poulson as we do in Konchesky, yet Kenny seems to think that Poulson can still do a job. If Kenny felt that Konchesky could do a job, then maybe he would be in the team. I seriously doubt Kenny would bow to fan pressure over a player if he felt he could do something with him, but the fact that Kenny has frozen him out is purely down to Kenny's opinion of the player. Maybe he has said that he also hates us scouse scum, like his mother does, and there are other reasons as to why he has been frozen out, but Poulsen proves that Kenny is not swayed by fan pressure.

Apologies for any misunderstanding - I wasn't suggesting that Kenny Dalglish has dropped Konchesky due to fan pressure and the point about Poulsen is a good one.

I meant that he was a scapegoat among supporters not management for the failure under Hodgson, an opinion obtained through both comments posted by Liverpool fans on this site and the reaction to Konchesky during games at Anfield.

Although I totally agree with the other posters about the fullback. I feel that his mothers personal attack on, not just Liverpool fans but the entire residents of the city of Liverpool left him in a position of no return.

Poulson is a decent player (not great) and maintained respect throughout his time at the club. Sadly if anybody is to blame he should look at his mummy!
