Liverpool to sign cut-price international?
Not much has gone right for new Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson in his short time at Anfield, but if one of today's transfer rumours are true then he may be able to pick up a very talented playmaker for a cut-price fee.
A story on talkSPORT says that the Reds are battling with Napoli to sign Auxerre's Slovenian international midfielder Valter Birsa. The 24-year-old was key in helping the French side qualify for the Champions League for the first time in eight years, and also impressed for his country in England's group at the World Cup.
The even better news for Hodgson is that Birsa's contract with Auxerre runs out at the end of this season, and so they could be persuaded to part with him for as little as £2 million in January.
Meanwhile, the Merseyside giants are also being linked with a move for St Etienne attacking midfielder Dimitri Payet. The 23-year-old leads the Ligue 1 scoring table in France with seven goals in seven games, prompting Liverpool to apparently consider meeting his £7 million asking price.

Then, sign :
David de Gea for 10M – Only 19 and already seems like a Casillas. Plus he has a desire of playing on the same team as Torres, this is his chance. His chance to do as well as Pepe maybe even better, his chance to shine at Anfield, his chance to play with Torres.

Frank Fielding for1/4 M – To replace Brad Jones. Plus, he maintains the number of English players in the squad.
Fabio Coentrao for 10M – He is a superb left-back, full of pace and is capable of running pass defenders. He’s like a left-footed Glen Johnson who loves going forward with the ball and getting shots on goal as well as supplying good balls into the box. We can get Mereiles to persuade him to sign for Liverpool.
Javi Martinez for 18M – Young, has a great eye, really fast, good in the air(excellent for set-pieces), could be the next Xabi Alonso(a void that couldn’t be filled since Xabi left) and at 21 he is a heck load better than Lucas.
Juan Mata for 10M – He’d be the solution to the lack of depth on the left-wing(something that has been missing for quite sometime now). He has the pace, the ability and a great mind . He is one talented young man. Plus he will cope well with Torres. It’d be fantastic to see him in play for Liverpool.
Valter Birsa for 2M – An up and coming player. He still has many more years to come and I’m sure he would like a switch to Liverpool as two seasons ago, we were known as one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs. By making the switch, he gives himself a bigger challenge after succeeding to help Auxerre qualify for the Champs League but this time for Liverpool.
Eljero Elia for 15M – Forget Carlton Cole, N’gog is almost as good as him. If we want a quality striker, Elia is the man for the job. He’s really fast and talented. I see a bright future for this young lad if he was placed under Hodgson’s wings. With both Torres and Elia’s speed, no doubt this two will cause a heck load of havoc to the opposing teams backline.
Total : 6.225M
The balance from the previous transfer sales would solve the remaining 10M we are short of.
I might be dreaming but this is what it's gonna take to get the club back to shape. Our current team is lack of depth on the wings and short of a striker. Not to mention a natural heir at left-back.
Therefore, these few players are excellent additions to the club. It might take time to rebuild and get them to cope but by signing these few players, we might be able to keep the likes of Torres and Gerrard in the team.
Lastly, after they come in, we wont have a team of second best's but a team filled with quality signing.
