Liverpool midfielder targets perfect finale

Lucas Leiva believes that Liverpool are worthy of fifth place and is targeting four victories in the club's remaining Premier League fixtures to help make that ambition a reality.

The Reds piled the pressure on Tottenham, the current occupants of what looks like being the final Europa League qualifying position, with a goalkeeping howler-aided 5-0 battering of Birmingham and the Brazilian midfielder is hopeful of using their biggest win of the season as a springboard.

He said: "I think the way we are playing at the moment we deserve to be higher. Tottenham still have an advantage because they have one game in hand and are three points ahead but we have to make sure that we win every single game and if we do we will have a happy end to the season."

The gap was closed over Easter after Tottenham once again flopped in a match they were expected to triumph in, held 2-2 at home by West Brom, and Liverpool will hope that with Spurs still to visit Chelsea, themselves and Manchester City, an opportunity to overtake the Lilywhites will emerge.

Kenny Dalglish's side have now bettered the capital club's goal difference courtesy of their rout of Birmingham and according to our estimates, ten points has the potential to be enough to send them past last year's Champions League qualifiers, who at one stage were fighting for the title.

For Liverpool, that would mean beating Newcastle and Tottenham at Anfield and winning one and drawing the other of their fairly tricky but not unmanageable trips to Fulham and Aston Villa.

Think they can do it? They are all the way in to [2.3] to finish above Spurs...
