Liverpool linked with Bolton's Elmander
Bolton striker Johan Elmander must have hoped that, having scored eight Premier League goals this season, a tally only Carlos Tevez can better, the list of clubs ready to snap him up if he opts not to sign a contract extension at the Reebok Stadium would feature some pretty massive clubs.
However, the three Premier League sides listed as potential suitors according to the Daily Mirror are all below the Trotters in the table - Liverpool, Newcastle (fair enough, those two at least have the potential to be massive) and, most surprisingly of all, Stoke.
The report also states that Bolton are contemplating cashing in on their star performer in January rather than running the risk of losing him for nothing in the summer, though the figure it is suggested they could settle on is a relatively uninspiring £3.5 million.
Presumably rumours of the Swedish international making a premature exit are influenced by the stories that the north-west overachievers are ready to hold a fire sale given that their latest accounts showed them to be in debt to the tune of £100 million.
Yet it is thought locally that the financial situation may not be as severe as the press have implied, a belief strengthened by the fact Bolton have recently tied down several players, including exciting winger Chung-Yong Lee this week, to new contracts.
Should Elmander stay to repay Owen Coyle's patience and belief in him? Is he good enough to start for a Champions League team? Have your say below...
