Liverpool ponder bid for Blackburn star

Liverpool are contemplating bringing in Blackburn goalkeeper Paul Robinson if there is firm interest in their current number one Pepe Reina this summer, according to the Daily Telegraph.

It is thought that the Spanish shot-stopper has a clause in his contract that means he will be allowed to leave if a £20 million bid arrives, and there have been rumours that both Arsenal and Manchester United, whose current first-choice Edwin van der Sar is set to retire, are considering making offers.

Reina has won the Golden Glove award for being the Premier League goalkeeper that has kept the most clean sheets in three of the last five campaigns but hasn't hit top form as the Reds have toiled this season, while he has twice been quoted in the foreign press discussing the prospect of moving.

The Telegraph report that Liverpool are keeping tabs on Manuel Neuer, Maarten Stekelenburg and Hugo Lloris in preparation for any potential Reina exit, however it is suggested that Robinson is also a serious candidate because, with two years left on his Rovers contract, he could be the cheapest option.

The former England custodian, who recently retired from international football due to frustration at only even being used as a reserve, has re-established himself as one of England's best goalkeepers at Ewood Park after his mishaps for the Three Lions had led to a miserable end to his time at Tottenham.

It is also claimed in the Daily Mirror that the club are mulling over the prospect of signing Newcastle left back Jose Enrique in the summer, having been forced to employ Glen Johnson in the position lately after deciding to loan out the unpopular Paul Konchesky to Nottingham Forest.
