Hodgson to block sale of Liverpool target
Roy Hodgson and Liverpool didn't part company on the worst of terms but that isn't going to stop the West Brom manager from fighting forcefully to prevent his last employers from taking Chris Brunt away from The Hawthorns this summer.
The Northern Irish midfielder, who was named captain in place of Scott Carson following Hodgson's arrival in February, still has two years left on his contract so the Baggies are in a strong position to keep him, though The Daily Mirror claim that both Liverpool and Aston Villa are interested.
It is said that the former Fulham boss has advised his superiors to try to tie down the 26-year-old ex-Sheffield Wednesday man by offering an extension, with Reds director of football Damien Comolli considering lodging an £8 million and Villa weighing him up as a potential Ashley Young successor.
Hodgson has done a fine job since taking charge of West Brom, vindicating the Black Country club's controversial decision to axe Roberto Di Matteo, and if the campaign had started on the weekend that he debuted in the dugout for them, they would be joint-third in the league right now.
The much-travelled tactician is believed to be prioritising convincing current stars to stay put ahead of bringing in new faces in the upcoming window and as well as persuading Brunt to remain loyal, he is supposedly eager to have Peter Odemwingie and Abdoulaye Meite at his disposal next season.
Will Hodgson guide West Brom to their first top-half top-flight finish in 28 years? They are only missing out on goal difference at the moment and are [2.74] to hit the top ten...
