The good, bad and barely acceptable
There were some cracking games today, with several surprising results and a few not-so surprising results. But who will have spent their Saturday dancing the night away? Who will have spent it crying into their beer? And who will have sat at home contentedly sipping a cuppa?
THE GOOD
West Bromwich Albion
Expected to go straight back down with Blackpool, the Baggies now have seven points from their first five games after their 3-1 win over Birmingham. They've only lost to Chelsea and Liverpool so far this season, and if they can keep getting points against the likes of Birmingham and Sunderland, they'll be in with a cracking chance of staying up.
Watford
Millwall don't lose at home. Never. Couldn't happen... Okay, there may have been one or two people (us included) who thought a trip to the New Den wouldn't give the Hornets much joy. But an almost unbelievable 6-1 win means that, in their last three away league games, Malky Mackay's men have beaten the Lions, Norwich, and drawn with Hull. The away fans are certainly getting their money's worth.
THE BAD
Everton
Five games and no wins for David Moyes' men is simply not good enough. Their heroics at the death against Manchester United last week may have papered over a few of the cracks, but things need to improve at Goodison. Their poor start last season could be put down to injuries - they have no such excuses this time.
Cardiff City
They got off to a flying start, helped in no small part by the signing of Craig Bellamy on loan, but a defeat to Leicester in the week, was compounded by their 2-0 loss against Roy Keane's Ipswich this weekend. The Tractor Boys have now overtaken Cardiff, and the Bluebirds are already six points behind QPR at the top of the table.
BARELY ACCEPTABLE
West Ham United
They would've been in the 'good' section had it not been for West Brom's brilliant win. After four straight defeats in the Premier League, the Irons got their season up and running with a good point away at Stoke. A lot of teams will be happy with a draw at the Britannia this season, so West Ham can be delighted with their day's work. It wasn't a win, but it's a big step in the right direction.
Southampton
Another draw. The Saints have been in dreadful form since the departure of Alan Pardew, but managed to stop a run of four straight defeats becoming five with a goalless draw against Colchester. However, new boss Nigel Adkins wasn't able to stop another landmark being reached - that is now the fifth game in a row the Saints have failed to score.
