MOT your multiple - a bouncing back bet

Every week, we pick out what we believe will prove a popular weekend multiple and put it to the test, offering an alternative if we're not convinced that the standout selection is the correct one.

With so many big teams dumped out of the Carling Cup in the third round, there will be plenty of interest in seeing how they respond in the Premier League this weekend.

Five of the eight clubs widely accepted to be England's finest were sent packing from the competition and while two of those, Manchester City and Chelsea, face one another, we think a wager on the other three returning to form will interest punters.

The obvious treble therefore is for Liverpool to beat Sunderland, Tottenham to win at West Ham and Everton to triumph away to Fulham and £10 on those outcomes pays out a cool £76.90.

Liverpool look a good bet to overcome Sunderland, themselves the victims of a Carling Cup shock in losing 2-1 at home to West Ham, having scored ten goals without reply in their last six clashes with the Black Cats at Anfield.

West Ham were hugely impressive in that midweek clash yet have lost seven of their last eight games against Tottenham, while unpopular former manager Harry Redknapp has been victorious on all five of his previous returns to the Boleyn Ground.

The hardest match to call of the three we're examining is the encounter between unbeaten Fulham and winless Everton. The Toffees picked up three points at Craven Cottage two seasons ago but a staggering 20 of the last 21 league meetings between the sides have been won by the hosts.

For that reason, we feel the need to stray from the obvious treble and instead back the Cottagers to defeat David Moyes' slow starters. There's little difference in the odds so our alternative suggestion of a treble containing Liverpool, Tottenham and Fulham provides a £74.60 profit for a tenner stake.
