Everton wreck Man City's party once again
Everton ended their seven-match winless run in spectacular fashion last night with a 2-1 victory over Manchester City that denied the hosts the opportunity to end the day in which captain Carlos Tevez reaffirmed his commitment to the club top of the Premier League.
It was the Toffees fourth successive triumph at Eastlands and there was money to be made by anyone who had studied the form guide and decided that David Moyes' side were going to upset the odds yet again.
A £10 bet on Everton winning on Betfair returned £47.50 - even accounting for the maximum five per cent commission - compared to £40 with Coral, Bwin, Blue Square, Betclic and Sporting Bet, while anyone who had the same amount on the scoreline won back £228 on Betfair, whereas Bwin customers had to settle for £130.
As Moyes pointed out in his post-match interview, Everton rather surprisingly have two points more than they had at this stage last season, and given that they only narrowly missed out on a top-six finish after a post-Christmas surge, the price of [3.7] on them hitting the European positions this time holds some appeal.
If on the other hand, you expect this to prove a rare high point in a hugely underwhelming campaign for The People's Club then they are a massive [42.0] to be relegated. The Merseyside team are still just five points above the drop zone having played a game more than most others, but should survive comfortably.
Tim Cahill's latest headed goal took his tally to nine for the season, putting him ahead of the likes of Didier Drogba and Darren Bent in fourth, two behind leader Dimitar Berbatov. The Australian midfielder is [7.0] to wind up being one of the top four goalscorers in the division.
Manchester City's title odds suffered from yesterday's setback though, having drifted earlier on Monday following the Tevez change of heart, the Citizens are out to [14.0] to finish first.
