Everton and Celtic consider freebie striker

The day after the end of the Premier League season normally sees a manager or two resign or get sacked but none of that has happened yet, and instead the biggest outgoing news is that Cardiff have confirmed that Jay Bothroyd won't be extending his three-year stay at the club.

The striker, who was capped by Fabio Capello for England in the friendly against France last year, is out of contract later this summer and having failed to agree a new deal with the Bluebirds amidst links to several top-flight teams, the play-off losers have announced their intention to release him.

Cardiff's revelation is expected to alert sides in both the Premier League and the SPL, with Wales Online claiming last week that Everton, Sunderland and Celtic have all shown an interest, while there is also talk that West Ham are keen, though the 28-year-old may consider that a sideways move.

Everton are viewed as favourites, presumably because they have shown in the past a willingness to gamble on Championship stars and are also an attractive proposition to the likes of Bothroyd having demonstrated on numerous occasions that they give lower-league signings plenty of game time.

The one potential stumbling block regarding the Arsenal trainee heading to Goodison Park is that boss David Moyes is rated an outsider for the Chelsea job at [55.0], however that's a long shot given that their last eight managers - including six under Roman Abramovich - have come from overseas.

Is Bothroyd good enough for Everton? Have your say in the box below...

Boothroyd would be a good addition to our squad and would bring more to the team than the old Yak (32 in dog years)! Hopefully we can get him plus another three of his calibre!! Can't wait for next season!!!!

No I'm afraid Bothroyd isn't good enough for EFC! I saw him twice against Reading and he was poor!
Welbeck at Man U is better and the guy in France we've been linked with Nolan Roux, sounds very good! The winger Yannick Djalo from Sporting Lisbon I saw a video of him we've just got to sign this guy he looks absolutely ex!!!

@davehughes. Why would we want him... and another three like him. That would bring the total to 5 (inc Anichebe) s**** strikers. No way.
