Beckham's team-mate to rejoin Everton?
David Moyes' and Phil Neville's hopes of wooing David Beckham to Everton on loan in January were dealt a pretty fatal blow yesterday when the former England captain declared that "I'm a Manchester United fan -- it's too close to home".
All is not lost for the Toffees though as they may wind up landing his LA Galaxy team-mate Landon Donovan for the second successive season instead.
The USA star, who scored as many goals as the entire England team at the World Cup, has admitted that he would find it difficult to reject the opportunity to head back to Merseyside if it arises.
He said: "I want to go back to Everton. How could I not after last time? But I have to be responsible to my body. I would say it is 50-50 at the moment. I have had two weeks off and if my body feels better I would say there is a good chance, but if I still feel tired then we will have to see."
The former Bayer Leverkusen forward once criticised Beckham for a lack of commitment to the LA Galaxy cause after a prolonged loan spell with AC Milan but found it very difficult to leave Everton when his time was up last term, having endeared himself to the Goodison Park faithful.
Could Donovan help Everton perform another one of their trademark second-half-of-the-season surges? They are [3.85] to finish in the top six...
