The in-play guide to Chelsea vs Liverpool
Chelsea are firm [1.64] favourites to end Liverpool's winning streak following the arrival of Fernando Torres from Sunday afternoon's opponents, however there are lots of ways to make money from the occasion, including betting as the action unfolds. Here are three trends that will help you with that...
Don't be fooled by an early goal
None of the last ten Premier League clashes between the teams have featured more than two goals, which suggests that under 2.5 goals is a great bet at [1.92]. That price may get even longer though if, as in four of the last eight collisions, the deadlock is broken within 16 minutes. So be prepared to jump right in on unders if there is an early strike, or at least avoid being sucked in to backing overs.
Chelsea will pressure Liverpool in the second half...
If only goals scored in the second half of games registered, Chelsea would be level with Manchester United rather than trailing them by ten points, while Liverpool would be two points worse off than they already are. An even more significant statistic though is that ten of Chelsea's 46 Premier League goals have been scored in the final ten minutes, so be aware of the potential for a vital late goal.
...but a first-half lead should see either through
Whichever team leads at half-time is incredibly unlikely to lose though because neither team has a great record for fighting back from behind this season. Chelsea have salvaged just a point in the six matches they have been trailed at the interval -failing to recover at Anfield - while the Reds have battled to win following a half-time deficit once, at home to Bolton, losing on the five other occasions. The champions meanwhile are yet to taste defeat in a game they've scored first in.
