Pienaar snubs Chelsea to join Euro giants

The days when Chelsea could have their pick of pretty much in player in the world (besides Steven Gerrard!) appear to have passed given widespread reports on Friday lunchtime that Steven Pienaar has rejected them in order to sign for a major European club at the end of the season.

Earlier in the week it was suggested that long-term admirers Tottenham were finally in a position to bring in the Everton winger, whose Goodison Park contract expires in the summer, however Chelsea made their own offer and were confident of capturing the South African, only to be snubbed.

There has been no confirmation as to which team the 28-year-old is expected to choose ahead of the Blues, though Inter Milan are the most likely candidates. Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich have also been mentioned but the former don't really qualify as continental giants and the latter have a fair few attacking midfielders.

Pienaar will stay at Everton, where he was named player of the year for his performances in 2010-11, for the rest of the campaign before making a move abroad at the end of his deal. The Toffees have lost just three of their last 16 games yet are still [4.2] to finish in the top six.

UPDATE: Moyes has revealed that Everton have accepted a bid from an unnamed side, with his expectation being that Pienaar will leave the club this month.

Where will Pienaar go? Should he have joined Chelsea? Let us know below...
