Huge support for the Chelsea job favourite

Harry Redknapp remains the favourite to take charge of Chelsea this summer and while his current odds of [4.5] may suggest that there is a lack of conviction in the market that he will be the latest to assume the precarious position, those backing him certainly have faith in him being handed the job.

There are 27 different managers available to back to be installed at Stamford Bridge on Betfair and rather tellingly 37 per cent of the overall money matched in the market has been staked on the Tottenham boss, as opposed for example to 22 per cent on [4.7] second favourite Marco van Basten.

The overall amount stuck on Redknapp being appointed is an eye-opening £45,167, which is brilliant news to others like ourselves who do not believe that the former West Ham and Portsmouth chief will be hired by Roman Abramovich, as it means there are no shortage of opportunities to lay him.

As mentioned earlier in the week, the only major silverware that he has to show for his 28-year coaching career is the FA Cup that he won with Pompey, while there is no tradition for targeting English tacticians in place at Chelsea, with each of their last eight managers coming from overseas.

Others still rated as being in the running by Betfair punters include Guus Hiddink ([5.4]) - despite his commitments to Turkey and doubts over his desire to return to club management - Porto's treble winner and our fancy Andre Villas Boas ([10.5]) and Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola ([15.5]).

Think there's no smoke without fire as far as the support for Redknapp is concerned? If so, the Spurs figurehead can be backed at [4.5]...
