New Roma link for Chelsea boss Ancelotti

Carlo Ancelotti survived speculation that Chelsea were about to sack him by delivering successive vital victories over FC Copenhagen in the Champions League and Manchester United in the Premier League, however rumours still persist that he will head back to former club Roma this summer.

The Italian tactician has done little to hush speculation by admitting that returning to the Italian capital to coach Roma is his career dream, though he has always been careful to state that he isn't working to a schedule and that he feels no great rush to take his seat in the Stadio Olimpico dugout.

Murmurings of Ancelotti exiting Stamford Bridge had grown muted following their turnaround in form but Carletto's ex-Roma team-mate Ruggiero Rizzitelli has reignited it by suggesting that the two-time Champions League winner has probably already held talks with the Giallorossi.

According to the Daily Mail, who also rather humorously try to claim credit for breaking the news that Ancelotti and Roma's futures could be entwined, Rizzitelli said: "I believe there are negotiations with Ancelotti and Roma already yet it all depends on how much money is available.

"If Ancelotti comes to Roma, he expects a competitive side. So we have to see how much cash the owners are willing to provide for him as he will need the money to bring in important players. Ancelotti is a coach who earns big money, and so it's normal that he would have to reduce his demands to come to Roma."

Much is likely to depend on the drawn out Thomas Di Benedetto-fronted American takeover bid of the club being concluded successfully and on how much ambition the new owners are willing to show, though there appears to be a lot of consensus in the media that Ancelotti's spell as Chelsea boss is coming to the end.

Will Ancelotti deliver the Champions League to render himself irreplaceable? He is [7.0] to finally get their hands on the trophy...
