Chelsea fail their Manchester City test

He started the weekend by telling everyone that Chelsea would easily win the Premier League - but that's the only thing that Roberto Mancini got wrong, thanks to his side's 1-0 victory over Chelsea.

City captain Carlos Tevez bagged the only goal of the game on the hour mark to subject the Blues to their first defeat of the season.

While it wasn't as entertaining as the free-scoring affairs of last term, the Citizens were worth their win. Chelsea were far from the marauding team that has terrorized defences this season, and they even looked out of ideas towards the end of the game.

The removal of Didier Drogba showed just how good a job City were doing of containing Chelsea, who had to revert to plan B for the first time this term.

Chelsea's price to win the league was below evens at the start of the week - pretty unbelievable when you consider the season was only five games old. They are still big favourites, but are now out to [2.12] to defend their title.

The win has taken City to within four points of the defending champions, and brought their price to win the league in to [13.0]. Winning the league could still be a bit beyond Mancini's men, but a more tempting punt could be to back them to finish in the top three at [2.45].

City's next two games are against Newcastle United and Blackpool. Six points from those clashes will set up an intriguing encounter with Arsenal at the end of October.

Things just got interesting...
