Bet of the Day - Don't expect Chelsea rout
Day 173: We're backing under 2.5 goals when Chelsea host Birmingham at [2.66]
After a desperately disappointing week or so for our £10 daily wager, our decision to oppose Brechin against East Fife helped us back on track on Tuesday and we're looking to build on that with a bold bet on Chelsea and Birmingham producing two goals or fewer at Stamford Bridge this evening at [2.66].
It's a slightly risky policy given the form Chelsea carried into their final home matches last season, winning their final encounters at Stamford Bridge 7-0 and 8-0, however the Blues haven't provided their season-ticket holders with anywhere near as much entertainment in this campaign.
The only games they've won by more than two goals in west London came against West Brom and Blackpool right at the start of the campaign and in terms of total goals at home fixtures, they rank behind the likes of perceived dullards Wigan and Stoke in 13th place in the division.
There's little chance of Chelsea conceding given that their defence has only been breached nine times in 15 fixtures at Stamford Bridge, with six of those goals leaked against top-half clubs, and Alex McLeish's side have shipped more than twice on the road just three times all term.
Another encouraging trend for backing unders is that ten of the last dozen meetings between Chelsea and Birmingham have panned out that way, with half of those having either none or one.
Our bet: We're backing Chelsea and Birmingham to deliver under 2.5 goals at [2.66], meaning that - before factoring in commission - we stand to win £16.60. The same punt pays only £12 with Betfred and Sky Bet. Sign up for a new account now and have your first bet of up to £25 refunded if it loses.
