Blackpool won't be shown up by Man Utd
There are two Premier League fixtures taking place this evening, one with the potential to shake things up at the top, the other at the bottom. Here's what we recommend backing in those clashes...
Blackpool v Manchester United (7.30pm, ESPN)
If only home results counted, Blackpool would be facing an immediate return to the Championship, while if just results on the road registered, Manchester United would trail Arsenal and Manchester City by a distance, so Bloomfield Road is far from an ideal location for this game for either team.
Blackpool were outclassed against Arsenal and Chelsea at the start of the season but since then have done the double over Liverpool and tested Manchester City twice, so as this is arguably their biggest Premier League match yet, their odds of [10.5] look long, while a lay of the visitors appeals at [1.37].
The ideal bet though appears to be Blackpool +1.5 on the Asian Handicap at [1.88], as the last time Manchester United triumphed away to the play-off winners by more than one goal was in 2001-02. Every encounter at Bloomfield Road has featured over 2.5 goals with both sides scoring, so consider those two wagers too at [1.6] and [1.85] respectively.
Wigan v Aston Villa
This is an absolutely massive match for both clubs, with Wigan presented with an opportunity to break out of the relegation zone and Aston Villa handed a chance to put six points between themselves and the bottom three.
Wigan have the worst home points average in the league and only six games to change that after tonight, while for Villa this is a huge opening for their second travelling success of the campaign, fresh from the lift Darren Bent's arrival has caused and at a ground where they won in each of the last three seasons.
Roberto Martinez's men have lost just four times at the DW Stadium, however they've only managed two victories and given that this is a fixture in which the away side regularly flourish, winning five of the last six exchanges, Aston Villa are the more tempting option at [2.32].
