Man Utd legend targeted by Blackburn
A glance at Blackburn's Premier League relegation odds of [3.2] on Betfair shows that many punters are sceptical as to whether they will even be in the Premier League next season, but that hasn't stopped them from identifying some ambitious transfer targets for the summer.
The Daily Mirror are reporting that the Venky's-owned club hope to convince former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy to return to England once his Hamburg contract expires, and under-pressure manager Steve Kean has confirmed that he is under consideration.
The Dutch striker is still highly thought of throughout the game despite the fact that he will be in 35 by the opening day of the 2011-12 campaign, and was even chased by Real Madrid in the January window. The prolific attacker made comments over the weekend that will encourage the strugglers.
He said: "I am thinking about a nice club in England after this season, or a club in Spain, but I don't think Real Madrid will come again after their efforts to bring me back in the January transfer window.
"I have decided that if a really big European club does approach me, I will accept a role as reserve striker. I would have accepted that too if the deal with Real Madrid had come off in January. They knew I was ready to step in when needed."
Rovers are up in 13th right now yet have plenty of work left to do to secure survival with only one point separating them from the bottom three and three of the top four still to face, and the Mirror suggest that if they were to go down, fellow relegation battlers West Ham may look to swoop.
Could van Nistelrooy still cut it in the Premier League? Would you want him at your team? Tell us what you think in the box below...
