Wenger criticised as Arsenal flop in Braga

Arsene Wenger has been blamed by a number of Arsenal posters on the Betfair football forum for the 2-0 loss away to Sporting Braga last night that sees them head into their final Champions League group game without qualification to the knockout stages secured.

In among the comedy comments about Rafael Benitez being available to take over at the Emirates soon (deeppockets) and things having all gone downhill since Bruce Rioch's departure (findthevalue), there were posts from Arsenal supporters genuinely concerned about their recent blip...

"More tactical ineptitude from our manager. And more flogging of our best player when he is injured. To quote ''I took a gamble and it didn't pay off''. Congratulations Arsene! Massively negligent and incompetent." - sintonian

"His unbelievable faith in some of the players, which is an admirable quality, is severely misguided and unless he has a dramatic rethink, his legacy will be left in tatters." - sheenevez

"I am pleased he has had his eyes sorted now. He seems to have seen every single incident against us last night." - JUDGE JUDY

It has to be said that while Wenger's criticism of the Portuguese side's approach wasn't very gracious, the Gunners boss did have two valid complaints - the decision to book Carlos Vela for diving when he should have been awarded a penalty and the fact they were down to ten men by the time the goals went in after Emmanuel Eboue was stretchered off injury.

The north Londoners have progressed from their group in each of the last ten seasons, a record for which Wenger deserves great credit, and they should do so again at [1.05], as their final match is against pointless Partizan at the Emirates, however they are [5.6] to finish top as Shakhtar ([1.15]) only need a draw at home to Sporting Braga.

If they finish second, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are among the teams they risked being paired with in the next round, so it's no surprise that they are out to [17.0] from [13.0] to go the distance.

Is it ludicrous to suggest that Wenger's days are numbered? Tell us below...
