Fabianski stars as Arsenal win in Serbia

Arsenal had failed to win the match that followed five of their last eight defeats, so their response to Saturday's shock 3-2 home loss to West Brom - a 3-1 victory in Serbia against Partizan Belgrade despite missing several first-team players - was hugely impressive.

A weird game in which there was a sending off and three penalties, two of which were saved, was also notable for the fabulous performance in goal of much-criticised goalkeeper Lucasz Fabianski.

Arsene Wenger's faith in the Pole was vindicated by a "faultless game" and, though Fabianski resisted the temptation to follow Robert Green in showing his detractors what he thought of them after his most successful display in a long time, the Gunners boss is confident that he will sustain his new-found form if required to continue covering for the injured Manuel Almunia.

Arsenal's position in Champions League Group H is far more comfortable than their current Premier League standing. They lead the way with six points and a goal difference of plus eight, and although Shakhtar Donetsk are also 100 per cent, the Londoners are clear [1.32] favourites to finish top.
