Arsenal target happy to consider a transfer

Blackburn defender Christopher Samba has refused to commit his future to the Premier League strugglers beyond the end of the current campaign, claiming that if he is offered an opportunity to further his career then he would be foolish not to consider it.

The Congolese centre back handed in a transfer request in January following the harsh sacking of Sam Allardyce but was eventually convinced to stay and signed a new contract that runs through to 2015, though the latest quotes attributed to him indicate that he doesn't intend to honour it.

He said: "You only have one career so you need to make the best of it. I've committed myself to do my best for Blackburn and then we'll see in the summer."

The 27-year-old has been in fantastic form in recent weeks to help his current employers to victory over Bolton and a draw against West Ham that has moved them to within touching distance of survival and would have no shortage of admirers if Blackburn do decide the time is right to cash in.

Arsenal are the most high-profile of his supposed suitors, with the Daily Mail claiming that he almost headed to the Emirates in January. There have also been suggestions that his extension was never likely to keep him at Ewood Park and was agreed just to ensure that he is sold at a competitive price.

Rovers enter a tricky conclusion to the season in which they host probable champions Manchester United and visit relegation rivals Wolves with a three-point advantage over Blackpool and Wigan in the drop zone, and odds of [6.0] on them going down indicate that they are not yet safe.
