Andy's Tuesday tips - Arsenal will win
The big boys enter the Carling Cup this week, and there are a couple of massive derby games to make things even more interesting. Andy Gray casts his eye over a couple of Tuesday's more enticing clashes...
Tottenham v Arsenal
Tottenham versus Arsenal is always a fascinating derby, regardless of what's at stake. The fans will be up for this and both managers know that. This competition offers the chance to try out youngsters and, while I'm not sure what Harry Redknapp will do, Arsene Wenger will definitely play the kids. Remember though, that it was in the Carling Cup that we first saw some of the current Gunners first team. I like the [2.7] available on Arsenal to win the match though and will back them to win 1-2 at [6.8].
Bolton v Burnley
Owen Coyle returns to Turf Moor for what should be a lively Lancashire derby. It's difficult to predict what the Bolton boss will do but he certainly won't want to lose against his former club and, if they put out a strong side, I will back the Trotters to win 3-1 at [18.0]. This tie is a perfect example of why you should wait until the teams have been announced before betting on Carling Cup matches with Betfair.
Sunderland v West Ham United
Steve Bruce is one of the managers I like and respect and winning the Carling Cup would be a great boost to his CV. He knows Sunderland won't win the Premier League so he will be taking this competition seriously. That is exactly what a young English manager should be doing, especially one who says he wants to manage the national team eventually.
Sunderland should look at Blackburn and Middlesbrough, who won this competition in 2002 and 2004 respectively, and try to emulate them by picking up some silverware. I'm backing them to beat West Ham on Tuesday night at [1.78].
