The good, bad and barely acceptable
This isn't the liveliest midweek ever in terms of actual matches but there were 13 matches in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy last night. Here's our take on who were the evening's heroes and villains...
THE GOOD
Charlton
Plenty suggested that Charlton would bow out - their poor cup record under Phil Parkinson, their lack of recent travelling success and MK Dons' home form. Outweighing all of that though their habit of always beating MK Dons, and that proved the case again thanks to Scott Wagstaff's late winner.
Wycombe
Colchester's only defeat in their first dozen matches this season came away at Sunderland so League Two Wycombe's achievement in winning 2-0 in Essex yesterday, courtesy of second-half strikes by Kevin Betsy and Scott Davies was a fine one. They're [11.0] to push on and top the fourth tier.
THE BAD
Bradford
There was reason for Bantams fans to have been optimistic about last night's trip to Hartlepool, home of the Football League's leakiest defence, yet once again they were let down. This was their four game in a row without scoring a goal - under 2.5 goals is [1.82] for their weekend trip to Barnet.
Torquay
The 2-0 loss to erratic League One side Swindon was their eighth without a win in all competitions having made a 100 per cent start to the campaign. Their once unbreachable defence leaked twice in the first half to condemn them to another reverse. It's [3.15] that they respond with victory at Crewe.
THE BARELY ACCEPTABLE
Port Vale
The League Two leaders were on course to provide yet another cup upset at Brunton Park, as we had fancied them to, leading 2-0 with quarter of an hour to go against Carlisle, however they squandered their advantage and lost on penalties. The Valiants are [5.9] favourites to finish first.
Bristol Rovers
The Pirates are having an odd season - they've been thumped 4-0 by Southampton and 6-1 by Oxford, but are ninth in League One and beat Peterborough last week. Rovers are still on course for cup success though after leaving it to the last minute to see off Aldershot, who had a penalty saved.
