Stevenage to end AFC Wimbledon cup run

ITV1 chose to televise this FA Cup second round tie because they thought they were getting a much-anticipated (by neutrals rather than fans of either club) AFC Wimbledon versus MK Dons collision.

Instead, Stevenage ruined their plans by eliminating the League One side on penalties in their replay at stadium:mk, and there is logic in backing Graham Westley's side to dump out more Dons at [2.54]. They triumphed 3-0 on their last trip to Kingsmeadow back in April en route to winning the Conference.

Boro have shown in their first ever Football League season that they know how to set their team up for away games, losing only three of their ten in all competitions. Their trick is to keep things tight, with just two of those matches topping over 2.5 goals.

Given that AFC Wimbledon's initial fixture against Ebbsfleet in the last round was a bore draw and four of the Conference leaders' last five home league games featured two goals or fewer, under 2.5 goals holds huge appeal at [1.95].

If you want a more ambitious bet then consider punting on Stevenage keeping a clean sheet at [3.5]. AFC Wimbledon have been shut out in two of their last three home encounters, while the visitors boast the impressive feat of having League Two's second stingiest travelling defence on their debut campaign. If pressed on a score, 0-1 would be our preference at [9.4].

I think the 3-0 victory for Stevenage back in April may be a red herring in looking to decide on which way this tie will go. Back then Stevenage were in great form as the season closed and Wimbledon's part time team had run out of steam.

Now full-time, Wimbledon will be a much tougher prospect and coupled with Chris Holroyd being unavailable and fellow striker Ben May potentially injured for the visitors, this will be one of the closest ties over the weekend.

My money is on 'no goalscorer', generally available at 10/1.
